Setting Limits: Is it okay to spank my child?

Many children's mental health professionals agree that spanking a child in order to discipline or correct behaviour is not advisable.

It may make a child conform at the time, but in the long run there is a respected body of research which shows that spanking is associated with a range of emotional and behavioural problems. Therefore, it is best to play it safe and avoid spanking your child, and to use other strategies to set limits and manage problem behaviour.
