Junior Zap wants to play music, but not by himself. He wants mother to play with him too. He plays one instrument hoping she will join in
but she is reading and does not put her book down. He tries another instrument, but it too fails to attract her attention. Lastly, he picks up one
other instrument and, lo and behold, Mother gets the message. She picks up a flute and together they march around the house playing music
together.
The preschool age is a wonderful phase for parents because preschoolers genuinely enjoy doing things with their parents. Preschoolers
aim to please their parents more often than toddlers and in doing so, show affection much more. This is a special time when parents can really
enjoy the daily activities with their child.
Although your preschooler is becoming more independent, your encouragement and support are still needed. Preschoolers will
start more activities without waiting for parents to stimulate them, but they still want Mom and Dad to send positive approval. One of the best
ways to do this is by joining the activity with enthusiasm.
Preschoolers seem to naturally enjoy dramatic play with others. It lets them try on more sophisticated roles and emotions. If you
join in this type of play, you can help them learn valuable lessons.
